Vacuum Sealing Food

Don’t you hate it when you buy fresh strawberries and find them the next day to be moldy and white? I hate having to toss out fresh produce that looks great one day and terrible the next. It not only is a waste of food, but also a waste of money. Yet there are some things you can do to lengthen the life of your food and even stock more for longer periods of time.

The general public was able to start buying vacuum sealers a few years ago. The food saver unit is a one of the more popular examples. What makes these so great is the wide variety of ways you can use them. Vacuum seal bags can be purchased to use for freezing produce. Pre-freezing food before you store is a great tip. This allows for them to keep better by reducing the amount of extra air when sealing the bag. You can store peppers, berries, lettuce, onions, or anything that might spoil quickly in a food saver containers.

Removing the air from your container helps to slow the process of decomposition, which is responsible for causing produce to go bad. Clearly this is not an indefinite solution but it keeps produce fresher longer.

The food saver even has a special tool to suction the top onto mason jars.

This is a great way to store dried fruits for long periods. Chips, popcorn, flour, etc can greatly benefit from this. It not only keeps you food fresh, but reduces the chance of rodents trying to get into your store of food.

This system is definitely worht the money and will pay for itself with the food you don’t end up tossing out. I can say from personal experience that this sealer works incredibly well.
