When looking at the movies that were released, the year of 2010 was a relatively weak year overall. It was easy to identify very early on which of the movies that were released were even in the running for the best picture of the year. Of these films there was one that was seen as one of the year’s best very early on. True Grit was in the running for best picture almost immediately after being released 2010. This award was not the only one that True Grit was up for; they were up for many others as well.
The Coen brothers are well known within the film industry and they made this film. They have made many popular films over the years and True Grit ranks among one of the best. Previously there was a film released under the same name starring John Wayne, but this version of True Grit stays closer to the one in the novel. This movie has climbed quickly up the ranks thanks to a great cast that is very well known. Jeff Bridges played the main character. Jeff Bridges had worked with the Coen brothers on other films as well, most notably The Big Lebowski. He plays the man hired by a young woman to avenge the murder of her father. Starting as a drunk who cares for no one and ending with him trying to save the young woman’s life, Bridges makes an amazing transformation. Although after their adventure together he never again saw this young lady, she continued to view him as an important person in her life. True Grit is well worth the investment of time to watch. It is a well done film in the Western genre and these types of films have become more and more rare. As with any Coen brothers film, this film combines great scenes that mix up some high comedy and grave seriousness. This film will offer something for anyone that watches it.
